What to fix, most important first
Step by step
How to check NAP consistency
- Copy your master details from your Google Business Profile, exactly as they appear there.
- Choose your country, so phone numbers and postal codes are read correctly.
- Add each listing: your website footer and contact page, Facebook, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and every directory you are on. Paste each field as it appears.
- Fix the red items first, then the missing ones. Formatting-only differences come last.
- Check again after fixing, because directories sometimes change details back.
The basics
What NAP consistency means
NAP stands for name, address and phone number. Consistency means those details are the same everywhere your business is listed.
Google builds its picture of a local business from many sources. When they agree, there is no doubt about where you are and how to reach you. When they do not, customers can end up at an old address or calling a number that no longer works, which costs you directly, whatever it does to rankings.
Method
How the checker compares each field
- Name. Capitals, punctuation, & against and, and company suffixes such as LLC or Pvt Ltd count as formatting. Extra words are flagged, and marketing words or a city in the name are called out as against Google’s rules.
- Address. Street abbreviations, state names and codes for the US, Canada and India, No. before a house number and the country name are treated as formatting. A different postal code is always a real mismatch.
- Phone. Country codes, the leading 0, spaces, dashes and brackets are ignored, so 089825 18191 and +91 89825 18191 count as the same number. Two digits swapped are flagged as a likely typo.
- Website. https, www and a trailing slash are formatting. A different page on the same site gets a note. A different domain is a mismatch.
The score
How the consistency score works
Each field on each listing is compared with your master details. An exact match scores 1 point, a formatting-only difference 0.8, and a mismatch or a missing field scores nothing. The score is the total divided by the number of fields compared, out of 100. Fields you leave empty in your master details are not scored.
Score = points ÷ fields compared × 100
Aim for 90 or more. Between 70 and 89, fix the mismatches soon. Below 70, customers are probably meeting the wrong details somewhere.
Google’s rules
What Google says about your business name
Google’s guidelines for Business Profiles say the name should be the real name your business uses on its signage, website and stationery. Adding extra information such as taglines, service keywords, locations or phone numbers is not allowed and “could result in the suspension of your Business Profile.”
That is why the checker treats a name like “Riverside Dental Care, Best Dentist Austin” as a problem, not a formatting choice. Use the same real name on every listing.

FAQ
Questions about NAP consistency
What is NAP in SEO?
NAP stands for name, address and phone number. In local SEO it means the business details that appear on your Google Business Profile, your website and every directory or social profile that lists you.
How do I check NAP consistency?
Write down your details exactly as they appear on your Google Business Profile, then open each listing and compare every field. This checker does the comparison for you: paste your master details and each listing, and it shows what matches, what is only formatted differently and what is wrong.
Does NAP need to match exactly?
Small formatting differences, such as St and Street, are usually understood. Real differences, such as an old address, a different phone number or extra words in the name, are what cause problems. Matching exactly is still the safest habit.
What should I do after my business moves?
Update your Google Business Profile first, then your website, then every other listing. Old listings that still show the previous address are the most common cause of inconsistent NAP.
Should my phone number include the country code?
Use one format everywhere. The international format, such as +91 89825 18191, works for customers calling from abroad and is easy to keep consistent.
Is this NAP consistency checker free?
Yes. It runs in your browser, there is no sign-up, and the details you enter stay on your device.
